International Conference "Changes in the geostrategic pattern of Asia and Nothern Afrika at the beginning XXI century".

Theme: One of main tasks of the scientific community is the comprehension of dramatic transformations of international relations which have changed the world's political situation by the beginning of the XXI century. Researchers into this problems are to define the main factors which have affected the "recasting" of the key actors and their influence on the new geopolitical configuration of the international relations as well as the appearance of a new international system. We aim to consider the following topics: the main trends in the international relations; reasons, dynamics and possible consequences of admitting global actors as new "centers of power": United Europe, China, Brazil etc.; the significance of borders in the contemporary political situation; reasons for the complicated character of conflicts after the end of the cold war. Thus we could formulate a true forecast of the international situation in the world for the coming decades.

The organizer of the conference is the Institute of Oriental Studies of Russian Academy of Sciences. Therefore we would focus on the situation in the East : Asia and Northern Africa. The main changes in the geostrategic pattern have taken place particularly in this region.

We believe that the collaboration of historians, researchers into international relations, political scientists and economists within the framework of the Conference will contribute to this objective. The planned Conference is aimed to initiate the discussion of international theory and practical politics.

Languages: Russian, English.

Deadline for proposals: July 15, 2013.

Proposals should include the following information:
*Name of a presenter;
*academic position and affiliation(s);
*title of the proposed paper;
*abstract of less than 300 words;
*contact information (e-mail address and telephone number).

Those who are interested in the theme are requested to send their proposals as an e-mail attachment in .pdf or .doc format. Accepted proposals as well as further details of the conference will be notified after July 15, 2013.

Please note that presentations will be limited to 20 minutes.
