Teachers at the heart: Macmillan Education Scholarship Competition
The prize
The five teachers selected for the scholarship will each win a two week teacher training course of their choice, running in July and August 2016, at the NILE Institute – a leading centre in teacher training based in Norwich and Manchester, UK. The prize includes all flights, accommodation and £200 towards expenses during the trip.
Who can apply?
The competition is open to all English language teachers over the age of 18 who have been nominated by a School Principal, Director of Studies, Head of Department, senior colleague or equivalent.
The nominated applicant must show that they have implemented and developed an innovative and creative activity or project which demonstrates through tangible evidence that they have improved the learning outcomes and capabilities of their students. The activity or project must have taken place between September 2014 to December 2015.
Examples of such activities and projects might include:
• setting up a class blog or book club
• implementing a flipped classroom environment
• successfully engaging students through learning via digital devices
How is the competition judged?
The competition will be judged by a panel of members from the Macmillan Education senior team, Macmillan Education authors and representatives of the NILE institute.
Judging will take place in January 2016, with scholarship winners informed at the end of January. The winners of the competition will be officially announced on 14th February 2016.
Guide to submitting an application
1. All applicants must read and agree to the following terms and conditions before entering the competition.
2. To submit an application, applicants must download and complete the attached application form (either as a PDF or Word document).
The application form comprises of two parts, both of which must be completed by applicant and nominator in order to be considered for the scholarship:
Part 1: Teacher entry form (to be completed by the applicant)
Part 2: Nomination form (to be completed by the nominator)
Submissions must be sent by either the applicant or nominator via email to: heart@macmillan.com before the competition closes on the 1st December 2015.
The following naming convention should be used in the subject line of the email when submitting an application: TEACHER’S SCHOLARSHIP: “Nominated teacher’s name” + “date”
