UN adopted resolution linking anti-Semitism against terrorism

The resolution and corresponding report included a new passage, which stated that terror groups are “informed by racism, neo-Nazism, antisemitism, Islamophobia or anti-Muslim intolerance, racial supremacism, ultranationalism, xenophobia, intolerance, related to sexual orientation or gender ideology and misogyny.”

It also recognized “with deep concern the overall rise in instances of discrimination, intolerance and violence, regardless of the actors, directed against members of the religious and other communities in various parts of the world, including cases motivated by Islamophobia, antisemitism, Christianophobia and prejudice against persons of any other religion or belief.”

Addressing the General Assembly on Tuesday, Erdan said, “We welcome the GCTS’ acknowledgment of the upswing in hate speech and terrorist attacks targeting religious and ethnic communities, which included an explicit condemnation of antisemitism.

“We have all witnessed antisemitic attacks against Jewish communities around the world, including here in the streets of New York, in recent weeks. It is critical that the international community take a clear stance against these attacks and develop additional tools to combat such appalling assaults against Jewish and other groups,” he said.

The report also maintained a passage included in previous reports that condemned the use of human shields. “Israel was glad to see the important language condemning the use of human shields retained in the resolution,” Erdan said. “Terrorists must not be allowed to use schools, homes and hospitals to shield their murderous activities. The use of such horrific tactics epitomizes the flagrant disregard for international law and human life that characterizes groups like Hamas and Hezbollah,” the envoy continued.

Israel accuses those terror groups of deliberately operating out of civilian areas in a bid to stop Israel from targeting their activities, or to use civilian casualties incurred in IDF strikes to pressure Israel.
