The Machine Inside: Biomechanics

The Machine Inside: Biomechanics is a new interactive exhibition for all ages. You are invited to embark on a fascinating journey deep into the animal kingdom to learn about new and exciting technological advances developed by man through observing nature. This new exhibition comes to us directly from the Field Natural Museum in Chicago, one of the largest nature museums in the world and a leader in its field. The exhibition will launch its world tour on July 9th at the Bloomfield Science Museum in Jerusalem before continuing on to Europe.

The exhibition presents animals as machines with the ability to move, feel, and survive. Fossils, stuffed animals, three-dimensional presentations, video clips and interactive exhibits enable visitors to experiment, study, and discover the world of nature: how does the cheetah run so fast? How do fleas jump so far? How did a fish that was becoming extinct develop strong jaws to capture prey? Why doesn’t a giraffe get dizzy when it lowers its head? How did the thorns in a dog’s coat inspire the invention of Velcro? How does imitating nature improve our lives?

The exhibition includes dozens of displays that invite you to observe, compare, role play, investigate, and discover. Covering more than 500 meters in a special air-conditioned structure next to the Museum, it includes a life-sized giraffe, digital exhibits, video clips, stuffed animals and more. Join a guided tour, watch scientific demonstrations and workshops, and take home a free gift!

In honor of the exhibition, the Science Museum is launching a new production – The Race to the Ark. The performance, combining modern dance, theater and animation, is suited to the whole family. The show integrates reality and the Bible. It is a survival story about two brave boys:

The deluge has started. Rain is pouring from the skies and the Flood is coming. To make sure of a place in the Ark, two boys find themselves competing against nature’s athletes. They must run faster than the cheetah, jump higher than the kangaroo, and stand on one leg longer than the flamingo. They are challenged by the physical abilities, flexibility and power of nature.

THE MACHINE INSIDE: BIOMECHANICS was developed by the Field Natural Museum in Chicago, USA.

The exhibition will be on display at the Bloomfield Science Museum in Jerusalem from 9th July -18th October 2014.
